WHO I AM NOW

I live in Norman, OK with my husband, our three amazing children, and our adorable golden retriever.  Our house is loud, crazy, messy, and full of love.  I am an adventurer at heart and love to travel as often as I can. Being outdoors energizes me and while I love hiking, climbing, and being in nature, I’m also a homebody and enjoy sitting on my couch to relax while watching TV.

HOW I GOT HERE

Ten years and three children into motherhood, I found myself in a place of trying to do all the right things with my kids and follow all the best guidelines and I was still constantly coming up short with the results. Why weren’t any of the strategies I was reading about working for my kids when they seemed to work so well for everyone else? We were in a downward spiral and things were getting worse instead of better. It wasn’t until my son got diagnosed with ADHD that everything became clear. After that, the rest of the family’s diagnoses trickled in. All those parenting tactics that work so well for neurotypical children weren’t the right fit for my neurodiverse family. I took a deep dive into learning everything I could about ADHD to best support myself and my family which led me down the path to where I am now, working towards my coaching certification through ADD Coach Academy, ADDCA.

In high school I wanted to be a psychologist focusing on children and teens . Then, while working on my Bachelors degree at Washington University in St. Louis, I discovered Occupational Therapy and pivoted to getting my Masters in Occupational Therapy at the University of Oklahoma. I worked as an occupational therapist at St. Jude Children’s Hospital until my first child was born. I decided I wanted to put all my expertise in child development to use on my own kids and chose to stay at home to raise my children.

I had experience working with children with autism, sensory issues, and a wide variety of neurological conditions and yet I had absolutely zero knowledge of ADHD, it’s impacts on adults, children, and their families. It turns out, I didn’t even really know what ADHD was. Thoughts that my son had ADHD would pop into my head, but I would quickly dismiss them because he could sit and play with Legos for hours, he always got great grades, and he seemed to be able to sustain focus on plenty of tasks. What I didn’t understand was that ADHD is so much more complex than just a lack of attention.  I have since dedicated my time to learning as much as I can and now I want to help show you not only what it means for your family, but how to overcome the many obstacles in your way. I want to help you stop your own spiral and guide your family to moving forward instead of continuously spinning out of control. Using my strengths based approach we can unlock your own awesome and find your family's awesome too.
